Westport House is a protected building of national significance. Carey Building Contractors were appointed to carry out extensive detailed external repair works with the aim to retain, restore and enhance the protected status of the building. This project took 13 months and a seven-figure investment to accomplish.
The works comprised:
- Roof repairs to the main house including relining of defective lead gutter, reforming of timber gutters with sarking, lead repairs to the parapet (under copings), slate repairs and refurbishment of rooflights.
- Works to the chimneys included the removal of defective render and re-application of lime render, replacement flashing and refurbishment of the existing cast iron chimney posts.
- The lightning protection system to the house was upgraded.
- Refurbishment Works to the existing façade: including repair and repointing of stonework, replacing existing render with hydraulic lime render, refurbishment and replacement of windows, repairs to terrace area.
The Works to the protected building required extensive scaffolding and specialist protection works including wrapping of the existing building to ensure protection of the existing façade and roof whilst the Works were undertaken. Careys successfully completed the Works to the Client’s satisfaction.
