Carey Building Contractors are committed to providing a safe and healthy work environment. Our priority is to eliminate or minimize any possible risk that might affect our employees and subcontractors or those who are indirectly involved in our activities.
It is a policy of the Company to comply with the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work Act 2005, the General Applications Regulations 2007 and the Construction Safety, Health & Welfare at Work (Construction) Regulations 2013 and associated legislation where appropriate and to identify and adhere to new legislation and best practices.
We are certified and accredited to both OHSAS 18001:2008 and Safe T Cert standards. Each accredited Organisation carries out annual audits to ensure the Company Safety Management System (CSMS) is implemented & enforced on sites.
Safe-T-Cert is the safety management accreditation system developed specifically for the construction industry in conjunction with CIF and the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH). Safety T-Cert meets the health and safety criteria for public procurement in the Republic of Ireland, Northern Ireland and the UK and for the “Buildsafe” initiative in Northern Ireland. It is also a registered member of Safety Schemes in Procurement (SSIP) in the United Kingdom.
We adhere to the strict criteria of the standards through:
- Planning and implementation
- Action for improvement
Management are responsible for establishing written policy in terms of resources, defining management commitment and defining OSH targets. They are also responsible for organizing, planning and implementation in terms of responsibilities, OSH objectives, hazard prevention and the assessment and management of risk.
Management and Supervisory Staff take responsibility for implementing the CSMS throughout the Company and we ensure that Health, Safety and Welfare considerations are always given priority in planning the day to day supervision of work. This is carried out through internal and external audits to review the system and working practices and based on this, preventative and corrective actions are put in place to ensure the continual improvement process is achieved.
With extensive experience in the Healthcare, Hospitals and Pharmaceutical sectors we allow for the full implementation of the Recommendations of CDC and the Healthcare Infection Control Practices Advisory Committee (HICPAC) and the Irish National Guidelines for the Prevention of Nosocomial Invasive Aspergillosis during construction/renovation activities (NDSC 2002) by providing a sealed/contained Building site during the full duration of the works.
